Relationships

Ever wondered how Sergei gets along with his fellow denizens of the Resident Evil universe? Read on.

Albert Wesker

I doubt very much if Sergei and Wesker were ever friends, basically they both worked for Umbrella and so there was a certain degree of comradeship but definitely not one based on trust or even much respect at all. When Wesker failed in the reclamation of the Management Training Facility it was Sergei who was sent to teach him a lesson. The fact that Wesker didn't see Oswald's wishes as the be all and end all disgusted Sergei who believes that anything is worth sacrificing if it means pleasing the Founder.

It is during the mansion incident that Wesker discovers that all his employee priviledges have been revoked and so makes a promise that one day he will get his revenge. It is almost 5 years afterwards that Wesker catches up with Sergei at his Russian facility. Sergei believes that he is the more powerful one and is even surprised when Wesker manages to survive his bodyguards. He sees Wesker as nothing more than a "black cockroach" - a pest that he is certain he can crush without even breaking a sweat, infact he doesn't even seem particularly bothered when he notices Wesker breaking into the secret base. Wesker on the other hand believes that Sergei is a man of suffering, being ripped apart from the inside by the desperate need for power which is consuming him and also which ultimately causes him his untimely end.

Red Queen

The Red Queen is Umbrella's AI defense system and although it is self-aware, Sergei seems to forget that it is just a tool. He believes that they both have a lot in common, desiring more information, more data and the truth regardless of how painful the reality may be. Of course these were the things that Sergei desired and what the Red Queen wanted was something that the user pre-determined for it (ie, his wishes). He believed that with the T.A.L.O.S. project and the Red Queen, he was invincible.

Ivan

Sergei is rarely seen without Ivan by his side, he is his personal bodyguard. Sergei had re-engineered the Tyrant T-103 giving it greater powers of comprehension and the ability to pass as human so it became almost companion like.

Oswald E Spencer

There is a lot of speculation that the mystery man inside the helicopter during one of Sergei's cutscenes is infact Mr Spencer himself but there is no solid proof of that. However, it is obvious that Sergei respects Oswald a great deal, Umbrella has become his life and so he is passionate about keeping Mr Spencer happy. Although not really a man for following orders (preferring to give them) if Ozwald Spencer was to tell him to jump, Sergei would ask how high. Sergei feels as though it is an honour to be serving Oswald and even if the old man's orders cross the boundaries of the principles of morality Sergei will still do everything within his power to carry out the Founder's wishes.

Nicholai Ginovaef

Although we don't see to see Nicholai and Sergei interact at all, it is obvious that their relationship is a close one. Nicholai was one of Sergei's trusted and highly valued comrades from back in the day when they both used to be in the Russian army. When Sergei began working for Umbrella and helped build their private militia, it was Nicholai who Sergei called upon. He refers to Nicholai as "Silver Fox" which is probably either a nickname from their past or a codename that he uses.
Sergei is also rumoured to be the man behind "Monitor" - the secret group within Umbrella set up to spy on its own employees and of which Nicholai is one of the main members. The correspondence between them suggests a very comfortable friendship in which a lot of confidence is placed and it seems that Sergei even goes out of his way to give him what he wants.

Mikhail Victor

Not much is known about his relationship with Mikhail other than he used to fight alongside him back in his army days. He obviously trusted the man and thought quite highly of him because he personally recommended him for the U.B.C.S.
