Sergei is an officer in Umbrella. During his army days, he held the rank of colonel and is still occasionally called that as a nickname. He approached Umbrella after the fall of the Soviet Union, looking for work. He is involved in Tyrant research and his experience in military affairs has made him instrumental in the founding of Umbrella's private militia, the U.B.C.S. Sergei brought in several valued and trusted comrades such as Nicholai Ginovaef and Mikhail Victor, giving the U.B.C.S. a strong military backbone.

He shows an ardour for following Ozwell E. Spencer's orders and makes sure that even the most radical of Spencer's wishes are carried out. He is even prepared to sacrifice his own men, as long as this serves the greater good - his greater good, the resurrection of Mother Russia.

Sergei can often be seen in the company of Ivan, a creature based on the Tyrant T-103 model but re-engineered in such a way that it can pass off as human. in addition to the trademark defensive coat, this model is also equipped with trendy sunglasses that include a Head Mounted Display, or HMD.
