September twenty-ninth, nineteen ninety eight ....I can still remember that night as clearly as if it had happened yesterday. I was on my way to Raccoon City to start my first day of work as a police officer for the R.P.D. Arriving in the city, I noticed that it was eerily quiet and the streets were deserted. As I drove along, I came to a body in the middle of the road and so I got out of my vehicle to investigate. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw, the body had been mutilated in such a way that I had no idea what could have possibly done that. From behind me I sensed someone approaching but when I turned around I was faced with a group of.....well people but yet they were covered in blood and just kept walking towards me, no matter how many times I shot at them! I shot at them several times but it made no difference, I couldn't understand why they wouldn't die.

I backed up into an alley and heard a door open, I turned to shoot but instead a young woman was standing there. I told her it wasn't safe there and that we should make our way to the police station. We found an abandoned police car and got the hell out of there. The young woman introduced herself as Claire Redfield, she was looking for her brother, Chris Redfield, who was a member of the S.T.A.R.S group - Special Tactics and Rescue Squad, an elite division within the Raccoon City Police Department. Just as we were getting acquainted a zombie suddenly attacked me from the back seat of the car. I lost control of the wheel and we crashed into a wall, luckily we were unharmed although just as we were composing ourselves we noticed a large oil tanker heading straight towards us - it was going to crash. We both managed to escape the car just as the tanker crashed into it and exploded into a huge ball of flames which separated us in the middle of the street. We agreed to stick to our original plan and meet at the station which was nearby.

I dashed into an open store which turned out to be a gunshop - the owner was still alive, his name was Robert Kendo. He claimed he didn't know what was happening in the town and before I could press him further, he was attacked by a group of zombies and died. I eventually made it in one piece to the RPD, the huge hallway was empty and the main doors were locked. Upon entering a small door at the back, I encountered a fellow cop, fatally wounded. He recognized me as the new rookie and explained to me that two months previous there had been an incident at a mansion on the outskirts of the city. Chris and the other STARS members had discovered that the Umbrella Corporation were behind it all. They had risked their lives to prove what Umbrella were up to but noone had believed them and then the city had turned to chaos. I wanted to take him with me but he insisted that I help the ones left alive in the building. I promised I would return but somehow I knew that it would be too late. He gave me his keycard so I could unlock the rest of the police station.

I managed to unlock the doors using the cardkey and a computer in the reception hall and cautiously began to search the station. I couldn't have got very far when I encountered the most bizarre creature I had ever seen. It looked like it had come straight from the depths of hell, I had no idea what it was, but it had a long razor-sharp tongue and huge claws. I had to think fast and managed to blow it away with the shotgun I had taken from Robert Kendo's body. Upstairs I found the door to the STARS office and went inside. There was nobody to be seen - on one desk I found Chris's Diary - Claire's brother. He had written about the tragedy that happened at the Mansion and how he had a hard time getting anyone to listen to him because Umbrella had influenced too many people. However, he had discovered vital information which he believed could bring Umbrella down and with the help of Barry and Jill had travelled to Europe to investiagate Umbrella's main headquarters. He felt he could not burden Claire with his plans as he was afraid that she would be put in danger. As I was about to leave, Claire entered the room, boy was I glad to see that she was still alive and unhurt. I had to break the bad news to her that her brother was not there afterall and I handed her the diary. I told her there was no reason to stay there any longer that we should split up, find any remaining survivors and then get the hell out of there. I gave her a radio so that we could stay in contact with each other. Claire was in disbelief at what was happening to the city. As Claire was about to leave the STARS office, a fax came through for Chris from the Federal Police Department. It stated that the Chief of Police, Brian Irons, had allegedly recieved a large sum of funds from Umbrella Inc over the last 5 years. It also said that he was involved in a cover-up of the mansion incident along with other incidents in which Umbrella appeared to have direct involvement.

As I made my way around the station I discovered more and more clues as to what had happened. I also discovered that there was a secret route from the precinct underground to the sewage disposal plant and that had been the planned path of escape for the remaining officers left at the station. I decided to go and investigate this myself. On my way, I once again met up with my fellow officer who had earlier given me the cardkey. Unfortunately it was too late for him and so I did the only kind thing left to do, I later learnt that his name was Marvin Branagh. On my way out of the office, my heart sank when I noticed my desk covered in party favours and a warm welcome note from all the guys at the RPD.

I made my way to the basement of the station where I found a parking garage. It was there I met a beautiful, young Asian woman - Ada Wong. Apparently she was looking for a guy named Ben, a reporter of some sort who was locked in a cell block. However, there was a large van blocking the entrance to the cells so I helped Ada push it out of the way. No sooner had we finished, when she ran off so I had a look around by myself. I eventually came across Ben and then quite conveniently Ada showed up in time to question him about what he had been telling the city officials. Ada was looking for her boyfriend John, he worked for a branch of Umbrella in Chicago but she had been told that he was now in the city and so she wanted to find him. It turned out that Ben had locked himself in the cell and had hold of the only key but he was in no hurry to leave, apparently there was more than just zombies to be concerned about. Suddenly we all heard a loud growl, Ben urged me to use the manhole at the back of one of the dog kennels to leave the city via the sewers, although he expressed that it would not be easy. Ada decided to try it for herself - but stubborn Ben was not leaving his cell under any circumstances. I had no choice but to leave him and check out the sewers for myself.

I didn't get very far as I came to a dead-end although there was a panel on the wall which required 4 different types of plugs of which I had three but I had no idea where the last one was. As I exited the room, I bumped into Ada once again and had the opportunity to introduce myself properly. I helped Ada up to a hole high in the wall hoping that she might be able to help find a clue. She returned shortly afterwards with a key, I was then able to return to the station to unlock the last doors and find the items to retrieve the final plug.

On my way back to the sewer I heard a cry from Ben's cell. However by the time I got there, he was badly wounded. He told me that Brian Irons, the Chief of Police was the co-conspirator behind all of this. Before I could ask any questions, he started to complain of a pain in his chest and then a small creature burst out of his body, killing him instantly. Ada suddenly appeared and after seeing Ben, ran off once again to locate the chemical plant in hope that she would find John there. I radioed Claire and told her that we had access at the back of the parking lot and to meet me in the sewers. When I returned to place the plugs in the wall by the entry to the sewers I was met by a huge monstrosity which spat out larvae-creatures at me. After defeating the monster I was able to open the door to the sewers. Once inside I met up yet again with Ada and informed her that as a member of the police service, it was infact my duty to protect her. I thought it best if we stay together as it was our only chance for survival.

We hadn't got far when we saw a woman wearing a white lab coat who ran off the moment she saw us. Ada went running after her and the woman began shooting. I could see Ada was in trouble and so I dashed to her side, only to take a bullet. Then I lost consciousness..... When I awoke, Ada was nowhere to be found, I presumed she had ran after the woman.

The next thing I know, Claire is above me, asking what happened. I told her about Ada and how some woman had tried to kill me. I desperately wanted her to find Ada for me but Claire was relunctant to leave me, I insisted you go as it was Ada I was worried about. Finally I got my strength together and decided to try and find Ada myself as I had heard nothing from Claire. After continuing down some huge spider infested sewers I found Ada firing into a pool of brackish water. Before I could ask her what was happening, a huge alligator attacked me, I was able to kill the beast using a pressurized tank which was mounted to a wall in the corridor. When I got back to Ada, she patched up my wounds and told me John was dead. She just wanted to get out of there, the sooner the better.

We found ourselves at a SkyTram which we were able to activate and take a ride, unfortunately we were attacked by huge claws, I didn't find out what it belonged to though because it disappeared after Ada and I started shooting at it. After exiting the SkyTram we found ourselves on a huge elevator but again we were attacked and this time Ada got hurt and lost consciousness. When I went outside to investigate I found a huge creature but I was able to take him down with my shotgun and get back to Ada. I was scared that she might die. The elevator took us to Umbrella's secret laboratory and there I found a security room where I was able to lay Ada on a cot inside. She managed to regain consciousness and told me that she would slow me down and that I should go in order to save myself. I reminded her it was my job to take care of her and she said that although it appeared she was not capable of caring, she didn't want to lose me. I felt the same way and promised her that we would be leaving this place together.

My first job was to restore power to the labs so that I could gain access. The entire area was crawling with zombies, lickers and the most bizarre killer plants that let out an incredibly toxic venom which they were able to spit at an impressive distance. I had noticed a door which required a M.O. disk which I presummed was my ticket out of there. I was able to find a lab card key which eventually led me to the M.O. disk, my next plan was to get Ada and then get us both out. However on my way out of the labs I ran into the good doctor's wife, Annette. She accused me of murdering her husband and that I had only come here for the g-virus. She was adament that she wouldn't let anyone take it as it was her husband's legacy. Annette then told me that Ada was a spy, an operative sent by the agency to obtain the g-virus. Ada had got close to John to get information about Umbrella and that she had been using me all along. I of course didn't believe her, Ada wasn't like that, I knew the real Ada. It didn't matter to Annette as she had plans to kill me anyway, but then an explosion rocked the compound and the ceiling fell in on her. I presumed she was dead. I took the G-virus sample from her body and then I heard that the self destruct sequence had been activated.

As I rushed to the M.O door, I heard someone behind me, it was Ada. She demanded the G-virus from me. I couldn't believe it, Annette had been right about her all along, all Ada cared about was getting her hands on the virus. Ada blamed me for not listening to her, she had told me to leave. Suddenly, a shot was fired and Ada was hit, from behind her I saw Annette. Annette had one last try to finish Ada off before falling to the floor dead. The impact from the shot made Ada fall over the ledge, I had grabbed her hand but Ada said that it was too late. I knew I could pull her to safety if only she had just held on a bit longer. She told me she had really wanted to escape with me and escape from everything, with that she said goodbye and then fell to her death. I felt ripped apart inside, I couldn't believe that all these people were prepared to die for the G-virus and in my rage I threw it over the ledge.

I hastily made my way to the M.O. door and called for the elevator. The self destruct system only had five minutes left before the whole place would blow. While I was waiting, William came crashing through the ceiling for one last battle. After defeating him I rode the elevator up and followed a hallway until I finally caught sight of Claire on a train. She was yelling at me, beckoning me to get on as quickly as I could. I made it in the nick of time. Claire and Sherry were safely aboard and we were all on our way out of there. It was over or so I thought, but Claire still hadn't found her brother and then it had dawned on me that it was only the beginning, Umbrella had to pay for this. I made my way to the front of the train and there I said goodbye to Ada. How I wished it could have been different. I watched in overwhelming sadness as the government handled the outbreak situation in Raccoon City with an overwhelmingly final solution - nuclear annihilation.

Shortly after the incident, Claire set out to Europe to continue her search for Chris. I remained in the US where I later joined an Anti-Umbrella task force with surviving S.T.A.R.S member Barry Burton. We participated in numerous classified missions including one aboard "Starlight", a luxury passenger cruise ship where a B.O.W developed at the Umbrella Labs escaped to. Eventually after a long hard fight, Umbrella's operations were shut down by the government. With the downfall and dissolution of Umbrella, I felt slightly relieved and convinced myself, like everyone else, that the horror could never happen again...

Years later......
Determined to protect the people, I became a government agent. Having worked my way up from agency to agency to the top ranks of national security, I then completed the training necessary to join the secret security service of President Graham himself. There was just one hitch. The President's daughter was kidnapped.

My first assignment was to rescue and return the President's daughter. Searching the world for clues to the whereabouts of Ashley Graham and the group that kidnapped her, I eventually travelled to a tiny European community. The local police scoffed at my request for assistance but agreed to drive me to the village regardless. I was not surprised to receive resistance from foreign agencies but the resistance that I faced in the village was nothing like I had ever experienced before.....no sooner had I arrived, I found myself surrounded by hostile villagers and I had no choice but to defend myself. My mission was to rescue Ashley Graham and I had to take whatever means necessary to achieve that.

At the time, I had no idea what had happened to these people, they had an abnormal tolerance to pain, had superhuman strength and almost looked human unlike the undead creatures of Raccoon City. But the similarities were there and I wondered if perhaps the events that took place six years ago were somehow connected to the behaviour of these villagers. After running into trouble at the Pueblo, I was saved by the bell, quite literally infact. The villagers disappeared into a small building marked with a strange insignia and I was able to leave the Pueblo safely. However upon leaving I discovered that my presence had been noticed and the village had been put on alert. I made my way to an old abandoned farmhouse where I had hoped to find Ashley but instead I met a young, mysterious man by the name of Luis Sera. A local man, who was once a cop like myself. However, just as we were becoming acquainted, we had a visit from the "Big Cheese" - the village chief who didn't seem too pleased to meet me. I tried to attack but was knocked unconscious and when I awoke I had no idea what had happened to me or the hell that I had just become a part of.

Luis went his separate way while I pressed forward, I had to find a secret passage to a church where Ashley was being held. I decided to head back to the village and found myself at the Chief's house where I had an unexpected run-in with him. He could have easily killed me but he let me live and instead made some comment about me having the same blood as them, at the time I had no idea what he meant. I also found out that a religious group was involved, called the Los Illuminados. I returned to the Pueblo and found the secret tunnel via the insignia building the villagers had disappeared into earlier which led me right to the church where Ashley was being held. Unfortunately rescuing Ashley wasn't so simple as the church was locked, however the door had a round indentation which I knew had something to do with opening the door so I had to leave the church and continue on my way.

I found myself at a large lake and soon discovered that it had a large, dangerous mutated inhabitant who wasn't keen on letting me take a slow relaxing ride across to the other side. Fortunately the monster had the sense to flee after I tossed a few harpoons into it. When I eventually reached the lakeside cabin I started to feel dizzy and nauseous and began to cough up blood. I just about made it inside the cabin when I suddenly blacked out. I awoke six hours later, it was nighttime, an anonymous letter had been left on the bed telling me of an important item to get Ashley out of the church. It also mentioned something about what was going on with my body, at the time I didn't understand and just wanted to continue with the mission.

On my way I encountered a strange sight - a villager was walking towards me, his body twisting and convulsing and then suddenly a large parasite emerged from his head. The parasites seemed to strengthen them even more which made killing them a more difficult task. I came across a waterfall where I was able to divert the water and enter a cave, it was there that I found an object that resembled the cult's group insignia - the key to open the church. I returned quickly to the church and was finally able to rescue Ashley. However on our way out of the church I had a chance meeting with the cult leader Osmund Saddler. It was then I learned that Ashley and I had both been injected with the Las Plagas sample - eggs that once hatched would turn us into Saddler's puppets.

After escaping the clutches of that madman we made our way back to the village and through the farm where we headed towards the extraction point to meet with the chopper. However, before we got there, I was informed that the chopper had been shot down. If that wasn't bad news enough we then found ourselves sandwiched between hordes of villagers and so barriacaded ourselves in a small cabin where I once again met up with Luis Sera. I'm almost surprised we got out of that cabin alive, but with the help of Luis, the villagers decided to back off. Luis disappeared once again and so I decided to move on with Ashley. Our only way out of the village was via a large gate which had a retinal scanner. I had already discovered the chief's plans to ambush us so I was rather surprised when I was greeted by Bitores Mendez, the "Big Cheese" himself. After I killed him I was able to use his false eye and finally leave the damned village for good.

We decided to lay low in a castle which unfortunately turned out to be a bad move as it appeared that the castle was also connected with the Los Illuminados. It was there that I lost contact with Ingrid Hunnigan, my field contact and so was forced to take matter's into my own hands. Surprisingly I met up with Luis again, he knew that both Ashley and I were carriers and had a drug that would slow down the process but unfortunately he had dropped it and so decided to go back to find it whilst Ashley and I entered the main area of the castle.

It was then we bumped into Ramon Salazar - the eighth castellan. He was working with Saddler and was responsible for helping him revive Las Plagas. I politely declined his invitation to surrender myself and vowed to Ashley that we would find a cure. Soon after, Ashley began to cough up blood and ran off, falling into one of the traps that had been set up by Salazar. I had lost the President's daughter and still had no idea how we were going to remove these parasites from our body.

My first concern was to find Ashley. However on my way through the castle I had a very surprising encounter! Ada!!! I had heard the rumour's concerning her working with Wesker but didn't believe them until I saw her with my own eyes. I had no idea why she was there or what she wanted but man, was she a sight for sore eyes!

Luis caught up with me and then I saw him brutally murdered in front of my own eyes by Saddler. It turns out that Luis had been hired by Saddler as a researcher but then discovered what Luis had been up to. I then rescued Ashley and was able to continue through the castle, however my joy at finding her was rather shortlived as no sooner were we reunited, she was snatched by a swarm of Novistadors and taken to Salazar. When I finally caught up with them, Salazar used the old hole in the floor trick on me. Much to his disgust I survived and so he sent Verdugo, his "right hand" to dispose of me.

After dealing with his faithful servant I had to infiltrate the Cathedral where I had a close encounter with a huge stone Salazar statue before eventually meeting up with Salazar in the tower. Unfortunately I learned that I was too late and Ashley had already been taken to an island. Then Salazar and his bodyguard were enveloped within some kind of giant parasite organism, mutating into a multi-limbed monster. After I dealt with him I was able to get a ride from Ada to the remote island where Ashley was being held captive.

Upon arriving at the island I was greeted by soldiers and commandos - all under the influence of Osmund Saddler. After entering the building I discovered Ashley's holding cell where I was able to release her. I attempted to request back-up at an old communications tower but my calls were unanswered and I began to wonder how the hell we were going to get off the island. With Ashley by my side once more we tried to find a way out and resorted to jumping down a garbage dump where we wound up in a waste processing plant. After taking a ride on a bulldozer we ran into Saddler where I was powerless to prevent him from taking Ashley once again. By the time I was able to stand, Saddler and Ashley were nowhere to be seen.

My next biggest surprise was meeting up with my old training comrade, Jack Krauser. I thought he had died in a helicopter crash two years ago but I was wrong. He had kidnapped Ashley in order to get close to Saddler. He was after the Las Plagas sample and would stop at nothing to get it. All for Umbrella's sake he had told me, the name had sent shivers down my spine. Krauser wanted me dead and might have well succeeded if Ada hadn't turned up. Although she had saved my neck, she was still reluctant to tell me the real reason she was there.

After my confrontation with Krauser I took a lift from Saddler's Throne Room and found myself in his sadistic little playground with one of his experimental monsters "It". After disposing of him I discovered that the reunion with my old pal Krauser had only just begun. Understandably, Krauser was quite a challenge. His plans were to restore Umbrella and bring order and balance to what he described as this insane world of ours. I realised he had lost it completely, I have no idea what happened to him, he used to be a good guy.

After killing Krauser I found myself helpless surrounded by an army of commandos. I thought it was over for sure but then Mike turned up! Now he was what I called back-up! He was able to clear a path for me through the commando base, taking down the machine gun turrets and killing countless enemies. I'd just promised the guy a beer when one of Saddler's men shot him down! That bastard!! After entering the temple, I got that same nauseous feeling again although it had intensified. Poor Ada, just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and I attacked her. I knew I had to get that thing out of my body but I had to save Ashley first. After taking down the final army I found Ashley in a strange capsule. Once again Ada came to my aid and I was able to escape with Ashley leaving Ada to take care of Saddler, or so I thought. Ashley and I then had to endure the painful procedure of removing the parasites from our bodies, but I can tell you I felt like a million bucks once that damn thing was out of me.

On our way off the island I could sense that something wasn't right. I wasn't wrong! Ada had been captured and Saddler mutated into a huge spider-like monster. I managed to take him down with a rocket launcher that Ada threw to me. However it wasn't over yet. My greatest surprise was when Ada put a gun to my head and demanded I hand over the sample. Damn that woman! She set off timer explosives all over the island before saying farewell and flying off in a helicopter. She did, however, give me the keys to a jet-ski so Ashley and I were able to safely make it off the island in time before it blew. Mission accomplished...

As for Ada.....she's like a part of me I can't let go, let's leave it at that.
