Chris Redfield is one of the two main playable characters in the game. Chris is a member of the S.T.A.R.S Alpha team. Originally from the Air Force, Chris was kicked out for reasons unknown and became a drifter. That is, until Barry Burton showed up with a unique offer. Chris took Barry up on his offer and joined the newly formed Raccoon City S.T.A.R.S.

A seasoned veteran with immense intelligence and strength, Chris has completed many a mission by overcoming the overwhelming odds and great dangers. He is an expert marksman, having won many shooting competitions, but is generally a disorganised man by nature. Chris has a very strong sense of right and wrong however, and will let nothing stand in the way of that.

After the incident at Spencer Mansion, Chris found himself consumed with the desire to bring down Umbrella, at times even snapping at fellow officers for no reason. He shortly quit the S.T.A.R.S team and transferred to Europe to carry on the fight, eventually catching up with his sister and doing their bit to bring Umbrella down. His current whereabouts are unknown, but we can assume he is with the rest of the disbanded R.P.D. S.T.A.R.S.

Jill Valentine

Age: 23

Jill is the other main playable character in the game, the easier option to take. An extremely intelligent young woman with a knack for picking locks and disarming explosives, Jill is now a former member of the Raccoon City S.T.A.R.S. An ex-Delta Force member, her experience and training came in handy when facing the strange incident in the Arklay Mountains outside Raccoon City.

Investigating the disappearance of the Beta team, Jill and the rest of her S.T.A.R.S teammates discovered something sinister in the mountains, taking refuge in the nearby Spencer Mansion and stumbling upon the horrifying truth - Umbrella was experimenting with dangerous biological weapons.

Surviving the event, Jill remained in Raccoon while Chris left to take down Umbrella abroad. Disgusted that no one would believe her story, Jill quit S.T.A.R.S - though she retained her authority and still called herself a member. When the viral outbreak finally hit Raccoon City itself, Jill faced the enormous task of not only getting out of the city alive, but surviving Umbrella's latest weapon - the Nemesis.

Designed to kill all remaining S.T.A.R.S, Jill fled from the beast, and with the help of a former Umbrella solider named Carlos Oliveira she escaped the city, determined to find Chris and help him to bring Umbrella down. As with Chris, her current whereabouts are unknown.

Albert Wesker

Age: 38

Wesker's story is a complex one. As a young man he joined Umbrella as a researcher, but soon realised that all of the researchers with big discoveries were ending up dead. Deciding to save his skin, he began to work as a double agent, looking for the highest bidder to buy Umbrella's secrets and get himself out.

It was during this time that Wesker become the captain of S.T.A.R.S, and leader of the Alpha team. He kept tabs on them for Umbrella and had them do Umbrella's bidding without their knowledge. When the Spencer Mansion incident begged for S.T.A.R.S attention, he could no longer keep the team away and sent them in to investigate. Hoping to get the combat data from his team fighting against Umbrella's experiments and then sell it to a rival company, Wesker underestimated his charges and they escaped alive, while he apparently died at the hands of a Tyrant.

However Wesker remained alive, having injected himself with a virus beforehand. Now with super-charged powers, he joined one of Umbrella's rival companies and still spends his days trying to obtain samples of Umbrella's most powerful viruses. He has a particular rivalry with Chris Redfield, and lives to see him dead.

Barry Burton

Age: 38

Affiliation: S.T.A.R.S Alpha Team

A former member of SWAT, Barry maintained and supplied weapons for the S.T.A.R.S members. As a member of the NRA he loves his guns, but loves his teammates and his family even more, and he will do whatever he can to help them out. Although Barry was forced to betray his teammates during the Spencer Mansion incident, he has since been trying to make it up to them, and has left his family at a safe home to help Chris and Jill in the fight against Umbrella abroad.

Rebecca Chambers

Age: 18

Weight: 93 lbs

Height: 5'3"

Affiliation: S.T.A.R.S Bravo Team

A child prodigy, Rebecca graduated from university at the age of 18, shortly thereafter joining the S.T.A.R.S Bravo team as field medic. However, due to her age and lack of experience she comes across as very nervous and almost too eager to please.

Rebecca is a briefly playable character in Resident Evil, though she only appears in Chris' version of the game, taking on a role much like Barry in Jill's. It was her team that the Alpha team came in to investigate, and she remains the sole survivor of it. Resident Evil 0, released later as prequel, tells the story of Rebecca's flight from the savaged Bravo team to the Spencer Mansion, where Chris later finds her.

Brad Vickers

Age: 35

Weight: 134 lbs

Height: 5'9"

Affiliation: S.T.A.R.S Alpha Team

Brad was known to his teammates as "Chicken Heart", due to his absolute terror at the thought of dying. Pilot for the Alpha team and an expert with computers, it was Brad's fear that left the rest of his team stranded at the Spencer Mansion when he took off without them, though he did finally return for them later with help in the form of a rocket launcher.

Brad later met his demise at the hands of Nemesis, while trying to warn Jill to leave Raccoon City. Cornered and petrified, Brad received a tentacle through the face before being thrown away like a rag doll. He later returned as a zombie to hassle Leon S. Kennedy on his first day on the job at the R.P.D.
